1st Service Beats All Expectations

November 2nd marked LakePointe's 1st service in its new building. It was awesome. Over 500 people came out and joined in worship. It was a day of celebration and honoring God because of his amazing work. There are several highlights from the service. We were joined by our African American partner church. They closed down the service with great music and prayer. All the people who helped complete the building project were honored. From Laborers for Christ to the carpet layers, electricians, plumbers, HVAC, and LakePointe's own were recognized as being part of something much larger than ourselves. All their efforts have an impact of furthering the Gospel and reaching those in Hot Springs and our surrounding communities with the Love of Jesus Christ. The pinnacle of the service was the arrival and set up of LakePointe's new Cross. As with all of our work, we start and finish centered on the Cross. Like the Apostle Paul says, we preach Christ and Him crucified! It was awesome.

Stay tuned, watch out and come by to check out the Spirit at Work. We meet and worship at 1343 Albert Pike Road. Hot Springs, AR 71913. Our new number is 501-623-4237. Praise God & REJOICE!

Deep thoughts from the women's room

The women took a much needed break Saturday. After working so hard they took a moment to reflect about the day.

Earlier in the week we had a district work day. The team from Memphis can in and showed their support. They did some amazing work getting the place cleaned up and sanding & painting the columns.

This week we have several inspections. Electrical, plumbing and HVAC. We also have carpet going in, more painting and the laborers are wrapping up the new stage. We are close to getting our occupancy permit in hand. Thanks everyone for making all this possible!!! Be praying throughout the week for safety and that everything goes smoothly as we get closer to our November 2nd launch day.

This Sunday we are going to announce the date for the first service in the new facility! Don't miss it, and if you have not been by the building lately make sure to check out the lighting and the murals! Both are rock'n! By the way the pic of Pastor Greg is from his first flight during his trip to Colorado...ask him about it!

Saying HI to our new neighbors

WOW. We camped out at the new building today and provided lunch for about 250 Accent employees. It was cool getting to know a few of our new neighbors. We provided BBQ from Smoking in Style, talked and gave a few tours of the new facility. It was cool seeing their faces light up as we shared our hearts and vision for how we plan to use the new facility. There was also a great group of LakePointe people who pulled this all together, helped serve food and talked with everyone who came by. It was a small preview into the many great things that God will continue to do as we move into our new place. God is good.

Here's a new pic from the building. This one is of the welcome center. One of the first spots you see when entering the building. To the right of that you can see the 30' projection wall. From the picture you can tell that everything is going well. 4 of the 5 murals are done, final coats of paint are being put on, ceiling tiles are going into the grid and the floors are being cleaned up. Come in any time this week and ask Bob where you can plug in and help.

This week at the building

This week at the building many of the drop in ceilings have gone into the classrooms and just about all the offices and classrooms are painted. It looks awesome. Misty Wacaster is painting murals in the kids classrooms. Check out the picture. Imagine 3 dimensional trees and fixtures that tie into the classroom theme and you wee see what the kids will experience when everything is finished.

This week we are finishing up in the classrooms and offices and beginning to prepare the worship space for painting. Come on out and help finish painting, clean up the floors so we can finish the concrete, or sand and paint the columns to keep things rolling.

Grab a brush and let's get the paint on

In an amazing week, the sheet rockers hung the entire worship space in 5 days. Everything has been sheet rocked and will be ready to paint this week. Praise God!

Starting Wed night and culminating on Saturday we will paint. Saturday will be our Big Big day. If you haven't been out yet, now is your chance to help build God's church. We will have brushes and rollers and plenty of other things to do.

Come out and get the paint on!

Echo....Echooo....Echooooooo

The program is about to begin in 2 minutes, we are in Dallas at the premiere conference on reaching people with media with the message of the love of Christ. Donald Miller is one of the keynote speakers and last night we heard Mark Batterson. Good stuff. We have been able to see first hand some amazing ministries and have built relationships with guys with the same heart and are technical genius's! Very cool!

Oh Cool

The heating and air folks were out at the new building today putting in the new heating and air systems.  They were using their cranes to lift the new systems on top of the roof.

Everything seems to be moving at a pretty fast pace now.  I've been talking to our own Shane Williams and David Thacker about drywall finishing and painting.  In the next two weeks the offices and classrooms will be finished.  Sweet!!

Make your Mark Sunday

Things are still rock'n in the new building. The remaining framing and electrical work is being done in the worship space. Finishing work on the drywall had begun in the offices and classrooms and the pier is almost complete. In a couple of weeks we will begin painting, putting up wall designs in the kids classrooms and patching the concrete so we can carpet the worship space. These are things we can all help with. I'll let you know when we can get in and start!

A special thanks goes out to Stu, Lois, Lyle and Gene. These laborers have great hearts and have made a huge impact at our church and for God's Kingdom. When you see them this weekend tell them how much you appreciate their work and be praying for them as they load up and head out. They are leaving this weekend and I want them to leave knowing how much their work has meant to all of us.

Also, Sunday after church and throughout this next week we are signing studs in the new building. Find a stud somewhere in the worship space and write out a prayer or put down a favorite bible verse as a way of asking God's blessing on the work and ministry of LakePointe. This will be our only chance to do this before the drywall goes up around the worship space. Take this opportunity to see what's changed and grab a pen to make your mark!

Joshua 24:15 "....as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

A bunch of specialty work is happening

This week a number of things are happening. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of things we can do until next week (but don't let that stop you from coming by and checking things out). Space has tightened up as a number of specialty workers are in there. A crew of 8-1o drywall guys are finishing the sheet rock in the classrooms and office space. There are 9 labors working on studs in the storage, worship and youth spaces. There are 3-4 guys working on duct work for the air conditioning system, 2-3 electricians and 4 regular LakePointe guys. If you consider the equipment and and potential 30 people, space is tight. Once they finish up we will have more to do.

Thank you for coming out last week. As things are less hectic and there's more room for us to get in and help out, I'll update the blog with things to do.

July 4th Weekend Puts Things Into Perspective

WOW! Despite scattered showers all day Saturday, LakePointe's weekend family celebration was a huge success. I did a lot of walking around and observing Saturday and Sunday and what I saw really stuck with me. I saw a family. Sure there were regular families there but there was a larger family there too. God has been developing relationships over the past two and a half years and each day he brings new people into his family and person by person and family by family we are all growing closer together.

Imagine what it must have been like for Satan to observe this weekend. Saturday people are setting up, hanging out and enjoying time together. Satan looks on reluctantly. The rain begins and we tear down equipment and cover things up so they don't get wet. Satan smiles and we question God, "Lord, is this really what you want - please make the rain stop." Despite the rain we press on and continue into the early evening. Satan looks on reluctantly. We still have a good time. The next morning the sun breaks through the thick fog and reveals a warm sunny day. Service continues and reaches its pinnacle during the baptism bash. Person by person and family by family people come forward to be baptized. Person by person and family by family people are adopted into God's family. We rejoice and celebrate with God and all the angel's in heaven at the 36 people he brought forward to be baptized. Meanwhile, Satan sulks and seeks out these people and others as a way to take out his frustrations for what's just happened. When the day was done I reflected on what God has done. God is alive and well in this town and in the ministry of LakePointe.

We have a lot to be thankful for. Many lives were changed. New people were added into God's family. Satan lost a fight. But his battle against our family will continue. We must stand firm and continue to grow in the love of Jesus Christ and put on his armor to help one another as we struggle in this life or until Christ returns. One thing is for certain. There is power in God's Word! Power to change lives, power to create new beginnings and power to sustain the lives of His church. Pray that His work continues with the same boldness and determination as we saw this weekend.

Talk about the July 4th weekend putting things into perspective. It's clear that we are not building a building for the sake of having a building. We are building a building to take the power of this life changing Word to all of Hot Springs. We want His Word to transform our community person by person and family by family. It happened for 36 people Sunday and it's going to happen to many more. I wonder what He has in store for us next? Thank you for coming out and supporting LakePointe and letting God use you to reach out into our community!!

Smiles all around

We passed electrical, plumbing and construction inspections for all the classrooms this week! The inspections went amazingly smooth and everyone was all smiles and giving thanks to God.

The LakePointe crew went through all the kids classrooms and insulated all the walls. That means we can begin sheet rocking. The building is undergoing a major transition as all the classrooms, offices and part of the worship space is up. I love giving personal tours and sharing my excitement about what God is doing. Come by and check it out and let me take you around.

Here's what's happening Saturday:

  • We're putting up more walls in the worship space
  • Smoothing out the concrete and fill in holes
  • Picking up trash and sweep areas clean
  • And maybe we can put insulation in the offices

Pray God's continued blessings on the project; that he would bring people out and that everyone would be kept safe!

LakePointe Staff out at the Building Tomorrow!

Hey wanna catch up the LP staff? They will be out at the new facility all day, getting dirty and building the church! It's going to be something you don't want to miss; part of the staff culture at LP is to do whatever it takes. They are putting that mantra to work tomorrow by digging in and helping with construction of the new worship center! Come out and join Pastor Greg, PI Scott, Nate Dawg, Brian, and Intern Aaron “W” as they build a church that is “Built To Last!”

We got a start

Thanks to the people who came out Saturday and got us started. We began working on the concrete floors and cleaning off the ceiling. This week I'm going to invite everyone who signed up with Mad Skillz construction and make a few calls too. Hopefully we'll get a few more people and make a big impact this Saturday.

Thursday, June 19, 2008

Big turn out Saturday??

We're hoping for a big turnout Saturday. We have an opportunity to show up and keep the project on schedule. What is the schedule? You'll have to wait until later this week to find out. I have seen it, its aggressive but it's do-able. Do-able if we get behind it and keep it moving. That's why Saturday is important. Beginning each week I'm going to email and tell everyone what has to happen for us to meet our opening date.

This Saturday we have to:

- Brush the ceiling clean in the worship space. Wear dirty clothes and masks. This is one of those Mike Rowe dirty jobs for sure. The ceiling has gotta be clean so the paint will stick.

- Patch concrete. It's time to fill in holes and cracks so the floor will be level.

- Put in blocking. This is putting wood boards between the studs so that grab bars, mirrors, and stuff on the restroom walls will stay put and not get pulled out.

- Pick up trash. There are trash items laying around and trash that can be taken out throughout the building.

- Buff the floors. Hang on. We are going to have 2 floor buffers going to clean up the concrete.

- Lend an extra hand. There are also places where you can lend a hand with the other laborers.

Show up and ask for Bob. Bob knows what has to be done and he will make sure that everyone who comes gets plugged in!!

What's it like working with Laborers for Chirst?

If you have been out to the building and helped out you know what it's like working alongside the laborers. For me it's like working alongside your best friends. I'm getting ready to go on a camping trip in July with two of my best friends. Whenever we get together, no matter how long we have been apart, we begin clicking, laughing like we have never been apart. Have you ever experienced that?

Paul, a writer in the New Testament says that , "as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another." When we are in the building we might look different or act different but we are one in Christ. There is something about being one in Christ. As soon as the laborers arrived they felt like they have been with us forever. It feels like being around your best friends. One of the LakePointe guys who have been coming out to the building noticed it right away. At men’s fight club he said, "You know, working with those guys I immediately felt a unity like I do with you here. It's the first time I've experienced that." That's cool! We are one in Christ and that's how it should be when we are around other Christ followers.

That's a little of what it's like working with Laborers for Christ. Come out and experience it for yourself! This week we will put up more metal studs, sweep, put in blocks for support in the walls. There's something for everyone.

We have walls

This was a huge week at the building. 3/4 ths of KidsPointe is walled and more is happening this week. Thanks to the Tabone and Byers family who came out in full force to help clean up, move things and see a few walls go up. Thanks also to Camille who brought out ice and snack food. We all really appreciated it!

This week we are finishing KidsPointe and moving onto the offices. Come out and join us. A couple of our laborers are leaving us. Jim and Carol Bouein left Sunday. They were sloted for a job in California and got called up. Jim and Carol came in at the beginning and helped lay the important foundation (like chalking lines and helping with demo) that's got us to where we're at today. There wasn't a job Jim wouln't do. They hope to stop in when the project is complete. We'll miss you both!

That reminds me. I need to get a picture of all the laborers and get them on the blog so you can put a face on who's helping us get this new hub for ministry built. That's it for now....

Getting ready for the walls to go up

This week the laborers have been hard at it. Most of the work has been getting things cleaned up. There are 50 drop in lights that we are re-using to save some cash. They are being cleaned and stored for when the walls and ceilings get put in. More concrete has been torn out - making way for flat floors throughout the building. Here's what's left for all of you out there looking for somthing to do. We need to finish cleaning the drop in lights, sweep the floor, take some old doors to the habitat re sell store and we have old concrete that can be taken to the land fill. All this prep work is getting us ready to begin building next week. Wohooo!

Oh - the electritians have been in and are getting home runs put in. That's basically getting the electrical lines from the power source to an area in the building where they can be droped into a room once the walls are up. Cool stuff.

Building Plans Are In For Permiting

Praise God, our building plans have finally gone before the Hot Springs permitting department. It's taken a while to get all the drawings together but it's finally done. We had an old saying in the business world I use to use, is it done or is it done done? It's done, and it will be done done in the next few days when we receive permits and begin the construction phase of the building project. Please pray for this to be a smooth process and for God to be in the middle of everything we do.

The building team (Jerry Edgin, Rachael Pullen, Steve Dabbs, Kevin Frank, PI Scott, PG, and Lee Niles) made calls to suppliers and potential vendors this week. We now have over 24 bids out. In another week we will begin awarding bids and receiving the building materials to get things really rock'n.

Everyone is doing an awesome job with demolition and helping to complete the few remaining demo projects. All the work is paying off. As soon as we have permits we will be ready to begin construction. Thanks for all your help - we will see new walls going up before we know it.

Hammer Time!

No, we haven't gone retro with McHammer but it's Jack Hammer TIME! We are beginning to get things ready for the new construction as most of the demolition has been completed. We still have a bit left to do, taking down lights and getting some of the scrap metal out. If you have not been by lately go by and see the progress! It's awesome!

The laborers have arrived!

Our first three laborers arrived this week. Welcome Bob, Ed and Jeff! They have begun marking chalking lines on the ground of the new floor plan. Now when you walk in you can stand in the entrance way of the new worship space and see where the walls will be. Or walk through the office area and stand in the spot of the conference room and work areas. Pretty cool.

Reaching OUT!

Last night we had a blast at the St. Patrick's Day Parade, there were over 50 LakePoint'ers marching in the parade handing out 5000 bead's with cards inviting families to church. The mantra was "Afraid You Won't Fit In At Church? Give LakePointe A Try!" That ole Easter Bunny even got involved with outreach as he made a guest appearance and joined in the festivities. This weekend we will have one of our biggest outreach events the Easter Eggstravaganza! It will be this Saturday March 22nd from 2pm to 4pm. We are inviting the whole community to join us as we celebrate and we are also collecting canned goods for Jackson House to help feed the underprivileged. Come on out and join us! Remember this Sunday we will have 2 services, our regular 9:30am service and then an 11am service where we will have a "baptism bash" with an Easter Egg Hunt directly after service! We are going to have a blast celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus and the new life we have through Him!

EB Makes a Surprise Appearance

In a surprise visit today, the Easter Bunny stoped by the office on his way to the worlds shortest parade. Imagine his surprise as we put him to work. Wired

Hey PG here and I wanted to give an update! We meet with the building team and the archetectic team John and Rico and things are progressing. We had a potential electrician meet with us as well to go over the bid for the wiring of the building. Please keep this in your prayers as the initial estimate was out of the park high. There will be an updated bid that will be more accurate as he will have new design plans and knows more about what we are looking for in the building.

This weekend will be big as we would like to get all of the demo done in preparation for Laborers for Christ to get in town to help us build it out!

The time is NOW!

Look forward to us sharing what God is doing in other ministries and how that applies to what we are doing at LakePointe and the new facility! God is doing some awesome things as lives are being challenged and changed and new people are living for Christ! Yea God!

LakePointe Passes Hot Springs Planning Commission

A Valentines Day to remember, last Thursday LakePointe went before the Hot Springs City Planning Committee for approval of the use of our new facility. It was one of those hurdles that we had to cross over and could have been a deal breaker if they denied our ability to use the facility for our ministry hub.

The Lord was working as the only question was about parking between us and our good neighbor Accent. Pastor Greg was present to represent LakePointe along with our architect John Starnes. After the Planning Commissioners saw the parking agreement and the construction plans which showed how it will coincide with Accent they agreed that parking was not an issue. Pastor Greg stated that when parking became an issue that we would happily go to 2 services, shuttle people in, or do whatever it takes to reach those who God brings.

LakePointe also had someone from the community stand before the commission and express an excitement about LakePointe’s new home. She stated that she had been following our ministry since the beginning, and she supports what we are doing and can see God’s hand working through us in Hot Springs. This was a neat testimony to God’s grace and His favor over what He has been doing through LakePointe.

When it was time for a vote to be taken, every commissioner voted in favor of the new building project and was excited about what we were doing for the community!

Demo days at LakePointe

We have officially started the demo work at our new site. Demo days are Tuesday and Thursday from 6:30pm - 9:00pm and Saturday from 9:30am-12:30pm. We have 3 onsite people to help direct the work and hand you the tools. Tuesday is Brian Trautner, PI Scott on Thursdays and Kevin Frank on Saturdays. Come out and be part of LakePointe's new beginning - and be able to tell your friends that you helped build it!

LakePointe Lease

It's funny to think about, we knew eventually we would have a home but seeing this picture of PI Scott and Ron(the property manager) it's almost surreal! God is good! It's going to be fun to see how this all unfolds and all of the lives that are going to be changed. Keep the prayers rolling! The mantra continues as we, "see how great our God is in 08!"

Unexpected Accident

Why is it the biggest surprises seem to come when things seem to be going so well? Thursday morning I went to the new building to help tear down the stage from Dreamcast and see how the work was going to get electricity and lights restored. My phone rang as soon as I walked through the door. It was our electrical contractor with the news that Kyle was electricuted that morning. I met Kyle the day before and found out that he was in his 20s and goes to church at Crossgate. He was a good guy and I was surprised to hear he was now in the hospital. My step dad works for an electric utility in Oklahoma and he's told some stories of guys getting electfical burns. Its grusome and I feared the worst.

I left for the hospital and went into the emergency room at St. Josephs. Kyle's eyes met mine as I walked into the room. To my surprise he was sitting up and welcomed me in, "Hey scott." It clearly wasn't as bad as I feared. Kyle began telling me about the accident and lifted his thumb and index finger in the air with about an inch between them, "we were this close to getting the lights back on." I laughed and assured him that that was the least of my concern.

Kyle was taken to a burn unit in Little Rock and was released a day later. The doctors said there would not be any permanant scaring. Praise God! God saw Kyle through a potentially deadly situation. The accident was also a reminder about potential dangers. You can never be too careful and we have to remind ourselves to take adequate precausions and we can never be too careful working in the new building.

DREAMCAST II

It's this Friday and it's going to be a blast! This is a chance to see the "big picture" and what God is doing/revealing for His ministry of LakePointe! We will celebrate what God has done and take a look at where He is leading us as a church. For me one of the more exciting pieces is the virtual tour that our architects have put together for us. This will be our first "sneak peak" at what will be our hub for ministry! Did I mention that we are also going to feed everyone? We have dinner covered with pizza from Molly Obrien's and Pizza Hut. Child care is also available. Little Lambs preschool located at 105 Village Road will host our drop off childcare. You can drop the kiddos off at 5:30pm(we will have pizza for them too!) and then head over to the
DreamCast located at Airport Road and Albert Pike Road(next to the old Hobby Lobby).

Again this is going to be a fun event as we look back and see where God has brought us and then look forward into the future of where God is leading us! See you there!

Pre-Renovation Pictures

Welcome to the first published pictures of the new location. The new building is located at 1343 Albert Pike Road. That's on the corner of Airport Road and Albert Pike. Many people familiar with Hot Springs know this intersection as the 2nd most busiest intersections in Arkansas. You can stand in the parking lot and get excited by watching all the traffic go by. There's no better place for LakePointe right now than in the heart of the city.
Notice the old Sav-u-More grocery store colors on the exterior, bright yellow and red - Yuk! The interior picture was taken after the building owner had all old tile removed. Three layers were taken out to expose the concrete floors. Some of the concrete will be stained and left exposed to go with the whole industrial feel of the new design.
